Abstract
282,960. Gladitz, W., J. Dec. 1, 1926. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Welding.-The edges of roller electrodes in a welding machine, which are deformed by the combined action of heat and pressure are restored to their normal shape during welding by pairs of stepped or grooved pressure rollers subjected to pressure in both axial and lateral directions and adjustable in accordance with the thickness of the electrodes. Stepped pressure rollers C are mounted on levers d, d<1> adjustable by a screw f ,by a pair of screws and turnbuckle or by a yielding pressure in accordance with the thickness of the electrode A and pressed in axial direction to preserve the shape of and mechanically harden the electrode. The corners of the steps may be rounded off to suit an electrode with rounded edges, or the reduced portions of the rollers may be conical to suit an electrode with a tapered edge. The rollers C may be replaced by inclined rollers with a U-grooved periphery. In a further modification, the rollers C may cooperate with an electrode A as shown in Fig. 5. The pressure rollers may be positively driven so as to rotate the electrodes by friction.
