466,047. Stereoscopic kinematography. HUITT, L. H. Jan. 27, 1936, No. 2576. [Class 97 (i)] A device for viewing stereoscopic pictures projected in alternation on a screen comprises a spectacle frame in which each eyepiece carries a pair of shutters mounted on steel reeds adapted to be vibrated by electromagnets energized in synchronism with the projection so that the eyes are uncovered alternately and the left eye and right eye see only the projection of the " left eye" and " right eye pictures respectively. The spectacles comprise opaque members 6, 8 connected ,by a bridge 3 and having apertures 7, 71 closed alternately by pairs of shutters 13, 14 ; 15, 16 respectively carried on steel reeds 11, 12, 21, 22, vibrated by electromagnets 17, 18 &c. Each reed is tuned so that its natural frequency of vibration is the same at the frequency at which it will operate during projection and stops may be provided to limit the vibration. If desired each eyepiece may be enclosed in an exhausted casing to minimize noise. The magnets are connected as shown to a source 25, 33 of direct current and to a contact ring 30 having conducting sectors 29 connected to a slip ring 31 and carried on a shutter disc 34 having apertures 35 to permit alternate projection from two projectors 36, 37. The arrangement is such that when the " right eye " projector 36 is open the magnets 17, 18 are energized to uncover the right-eye aperture 7, and the other aperture is closed. In a modification the shutters may be substantially triangular in shape. The apparatus may also be used for viewing lantern slides projected in alternation.
