Abstract
1,087,788. Stereoscopic projection apparatus. PANOPIX RESEARCH Inc. Oct. 4, 1965, No.42073/65. Headings G2E and G2J. A method of stereoscopic projection without the use of spectacles comprises simultaneously projecting stereo image pairs 12, 14 towards viewing screen 16, while cyclically and continuously varying the focus of each image so that they are alternately in focus, and also continuously and inversely varying the brightness of each image such that each image is brightest when in sharp focus on the screen. Iris shutters 26, 28 are alternately closed by linkage 34 operated by motor-driven crank 22, while lenses 48, 50 are alternately slid back and forth in guides 42 by linkages 64, 52, 60, 62 which are also crank operated by same motor M. The method is applicable to still or cine projection, and for cine, the lenses and shutters have the same cyclic frequency of operation as the obturating shutter of the projector.
