Abstract

420,955. Stereoscopic kinematography. THEGE, E. O. P., 59A, Hornsgatan, Stockholm. April 18, 1934, No. 11726. [Class 97 (i)] Each spectator of alternately - projected stereoscopic pairs of images is provided with a frame containing one or two travelling endless strips having transparent portions through which each image is viewed with the appropriate eye ; the strip is arranged so that one part moves forwardly across the field of view and another part returns across it in close proximity to the forwardly moving part. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the frame is provided with handles 12, 13, and contains one strip 8 passing round rollers 4-7 arranged so that two parts of the strip are in close proximity in front of eye openings 2, 3. The roller 4 is toothed to engage perforations in the strip and is driven by an electric motor in the handle 12 ; the stator 16 of the motor is carried by a casing 17 held between a nut 18 and a flange on the handle so as to be capable of rotary adjustment to synchronize the changes of view and of projection. The length of each transparent space on the strip, and the circumference of the roller 4, may be equal to the distance between the centres of the openings 2, 3 ; various other possible relations between these dimensions are set out in the Specification. Fig. 9 shows a modification in which two strips 55, 56 travel vertically, one before each eye, over rollers 62, 53, 54, the roller 52 being driven by a flexible shaft 72 from a motor 73. The stator of the motor may be carried by a casing 69 rotatable for synchronism and held in adjusted position by a spring 70 and notches 74. The motor may drive the shaft 72 through gearing, and may drive two or more viewing apparatus. The shape of the apparatus may be such that the paths of the two strips converge, so as to provide a nose aperture of convenient shape, the roller 52 being then divided into parts having different axes and connected by a flexible coupling or bevel. gearing &c. Small openings may be provided between the transparent parts of the strip to admit light to the eye which is not in use for viewing an image.
