465,930. Cutting and slicing vegetables. WEIRAUCH, B. Aug. 18, 1936, No. 22676. [Class 5 (i)] Carrots, beets, turnips, and other bulbous roots pass from a hopper 24 into a casing 16 round which they are forced by the vanes 19 of a rotary member to a slot 7 leading to a second casing 52. A knife 25, adjustably secured by screws 26, is positioned in the slot and cuts slices off the roots as they are forced past it : the distance between the casing 16 and the outer edges of the vanes 19 increases from the knife 25 round to the edge of the slot 7. A rotary drum 50 is mounted in the casing 52 and carries a ring 35 to which radially arranged knives 53 projecting into the annular space between the casing and the drum are secured. The slices cut off by the knife 25 are forced laterally against these knives by an abutment 34. The strips passing out between the rotary knives are again cut by stationary knives 41 secured to the casing and fall on to a jigging conveyer 56. The moving parts of the machine may be actuated from fast and loose pulleys 22, 23 or may be driven by an electric motor.
