Abstract
465,578. Locomotives. LENTZ, H. Dec. 4, 1936, No. 33290. Convention date, Dec. 7, 1935. [Class 79 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] In locomotive poppet valve-gear, wherein the drive from a main shaft 1 is transmitted through a shaft 4 to a transverse shaft 10, the drive between the two shafts 1, 10 includes Cardan joints to permit oscillations in a transverse plane as well as in a vertical plane. A worm wheel 2 on the driving-axle of the locomotive drives a wheel 3 keyed on a shaft 4 journalled by a bearing 6 in a housing 5 oscillatable vertically about the axis 1. The bearing 6 has cylindrical projections 7 which engage similar recesses in the housing 5 and permit transverse oscillations. A wheel 8 on the shaft 4 drives a wheel 9 on the transmission shaft 10. The bearing 12 can oscillate similarly, transversely, with respect to the housing 11 which can oscillate vertically about the shaft 10. The oscillatable. bearings together with the oscillatable housings form Cardan joints permitting vertical and transverse movements. The keys and grooves between the wheels 3, 8 and the shaft 4 permit longitudinal movement due to changes in the distance between the axes.
