465,337. Discharge lamps. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Feb. 16, 1937, No. 4681. Convention date, Feb. 19, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] In a gas-filled electric discharge lamp which is enclosed in an outer detachable envelope 4, a waterattracting substance 7 is placed in the space between the lamp 1 and the envelope ; this may be single-walled or double-walled. The substance may be any hygroscopic material such as calcium oxide and calcium chloride or it may be active carbon or silica gel; it may be held in a gauze basket. While cold, water vapour in the envelope 4 will be absorbed by the material 7, but during running of the lamp the water will be evaporated and surround the discharge lamp ; this may have a sodium or a high-pressure mercury-vapour filling.
