Abstract
433,811. Discharge lamps. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. May 3, 1934, No. 13410. Convention date, June 24, 1933. Addition to 425,103 and 425,601. [Class 39 (i)] In the discharge tubes described in the parent Specifications, the long narrow passage connecting the screened - off space 3 with the discharge space 1 is formed in an insulating tube of rectangular cross-section firmly surrounding a polewire of circular cross-section. The space 3 contains glass wool impeding thermal radiation from the screen 2, the wool being preferably of lead glass to take up the metal vapour penetrating into the space 3. The pole-wires 7 to the helical cathode 4 and to the two anodes 5 of a lamp filled with neon and sodium all pass through rectangular tubes 8 of magnesium oxide fitting closely together in a rectangular slot in the ferrochromium disc 2, the joints between the disc 2 and the envelope 1 and tubes 8 being sealed with a mixture of talc and water-glass. The lead-glass seal-portion 10 of the envelope is joined through a ring 11 of a glass transmitting ultra-violet rays to the main wall 1 constituted at least on its inner side by boron silicate glass.
