[Classes 20 (iii); 20 (iv), and 87 (i)] A hollow wall is composed of two spaced skins constructed of several courses of thin slabs 2 which are each provided on the inner face with an integral vertical pillar section 3 adjacent each vertical edge and an intermediate pair of integral vertical pillar sections 4, the arrangement being that the intermediate sections 4 laterally overlap and embrace the adjacent end sections 3 of a pair of horizontallycontiguous slabs of the opposite skin, thereby to form within the wall a series of verticallycontinuous pillars, and bonding pins 17 are passed through aligned holes 16 provided horizontally in the assembled pillar sections. The pins fit somewhat closely in the holes in the sections and may be in the form of bolts or screws. Stiffening ribs 10, 11 are provided longitudinally of the slabs, but these do not extend to the end sections 3. The horizontal edges of the slabs are provided with tongues 13 and grooves 12, and grooves are provided along the horizontal and vertical joints on the outer face of the wall for the reception of pointing material. The slabs are arranged with the horizontal and vertical joints of the two skins relatively staggered, the staggering of the horizontal joints being obtained by forming the slabs in the lowest course of one skin of half the normal height. At corners, a special block 18, Fig. 3, may be employed having grooves 21 to receive additional pillar sections 3<a> on the ends of the outside slabs, and pins 17 key the slabs to the block 18. A modified form of corner is provided by forming an extension 2<a> on the outside slabs of one wall as shown in Fig. 4 and passing bolts 19 through such extensions and the adjacent pillar sections of the slabs in the other wall. An internal and external wall, which are built up of slabs 2, may be connected together by bolts 22, Fig. 5, passing through the inner slabs of the outer wall and the adjacent interengaging pillar sections of the internal wall. The ends 23 of the slabs in an external wall may be preformed to receive a window frame 24 as shown in Fig. 5, and a door frame 25 may be fixed in position by screws 27 entering plugs 28 which fit the holes 16 in the pillar sections 3 of the slabs.
