Abstract

462,885. Supply systems for cathode-ray tubes. HAZELTINE CORPORATION. July 30, 1936, No. 21124. Convention date, Aug. 22, 1935. [Class 38 (iv)] To prevent excessive intensity of the beam in a cathode-ray tube when first switching on by reason of the delayed application of a negative bias to a control electrode, the application of a positive bias to one or more electrodes is delayed for a period at least equal to the delay in the application of the negative bias. The negative control electrode 21 and the positive electrodes 22, 23, are supplied from the transformer 9 through a rectifier 3 and potentiometer 15, the circuit being closed by a time delay device 4 after the secondaries 2<a>, 2<e> have energized the control members 6, 7, 8 and the cathode heater 12<a> on closure of switch 14. Delay in the application of negative bias to the control electrode 21 results from the provision of an isolating resistance 39 and byepass condenser 40 in the supply to the cathode 20, for the purpose of preventing modulation of the beam by power supply reactions. The application of positive bias to the control electrodes 22, 23 is delayed, for at least the same period as the negative bias is delayed, by resistances 41, 43 and condensers 42, 44, thereby preventing a momentary flash.
