Abstract
495,385. Supply systems for cathoderay tubes. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and MYNALL, D. J. May 11, 1937, No. 13390. [Class 38 (iv)] In a system in which the supply voltages for the anode and for the focusing coil of i cathode ray tube may vary to gether, in order to maintain correct focusing, the coil 1 is supplied from the source E through a resistance R3 and is shunted by a resistance R2 in series with a glow discharge tube 4 having a breakdown voltage e. The constants of the circuit are such that eR3= ER2 and R3 is less than E-e/I where I is the focusing current. By this means the focusing current is caused to vary with the supply voltage and the anode voltage V of the tube so that I varies as the square root of the voltage V whereby correct focusing is maintained. The source E may be a rectifier and an adjustable resistance may be included in series or in parallel in the coil circuit. The resistance 3 may be wholly or partly in the source E. The resistances 2 and 3 may be variable. The auxiliary resistance in the circuit of the coil 1 is effective to control focusing and to reduce variations in the resistance of the coil circuit with change of temperature of the coil 1.
