Abstract
462,532. Electric cables. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 5, 1935, Nos. 24793 and 24794. Convention dates,'Sept. 5, 1934 and Oct. 25, 1934. [Class 36] A television cable comprises a quad, Fig. 1, the conductors 1 of which are rigidly held in spaced relationship by insulating discs 2, e.g. of ceramic material having a low angle of loss and a low dielectric constant. The discs 2 are slotted as at 3 to house the conductors which are maintained in position by wedges, insertion pieces 5, Fig. 2, or in any suitable manner. When as in Fig. 1, the quad is twisted the conductors are maintained in position by the tension therein further securing means being dispensed with. The quad is covered by a screening lead sheath 4, beneath which a layer 6 of brass, copper, aluminium or of insulation, e.g. paper is provided to prevent any lead powder or shavings that may be formed, from contacting with the conductors. In such a cable the phantom circuit only is suitable for television transmissions, the side circuits being used only in the lower frequency range, but by providing a copper or brass layer 6, Fig. 5, insulated at 7 from the lead sheath 4, the side circuits may also be used for television transmissions. The metallic layer 6 is subdivided to prevent the flow of eddy currents while still providing adequate screening. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 5227/01, 18180/01, 19510/01, and 11487/02, [all in Class 36].
