[Class 100 (i)] In a machine for feeding book signatures, folded sheets, &c. t( the oscillating saddle S of a book stitching machine as described ir the parent Specification, the re ciprocating fork for transferring the signatures from the conveyer 26 to the saddle S is replaced by a pair of positively driven feedrollers 34, 35 which are so arranged that the upper roller 35 is raised out of contact with the lower while the pusher 26<a> of the conveyer 26 feeds the signatures on to stationary saddle plates 30 31 which guide the signatures on to the saddle. The signatures are finally fed against a stop 63 on the saddle when a cam 52 permits springs 56, Fig. 4, to move a pivotal bearing-block 46 so that a rock-shaft 45, on which the roller 35 is mounted, is moved to bring the rollers 35, 34 into contact. The periphery of the roller 34 is shaped so as to be in alignment with the apex of the saddle S, and the roller 35 is shaped so as to coact exactly with the roller 34 as shown in Fig. 4. When the signature is engaged by the rollers their speed is equal to that of the conveyer 26 but the speed is then increased. The lower roller is driven by an oscillating segmental gear 38 operated by a cam 44, and the upper roller is driven by an oscillating segmental gear 61 on the shaft 40 of the gear 38. The movement of the bearing-block 46 is limited by an adjustable stop 64, Fig. 4, which regulates the pressure between the rollers 35, 34.
