Folding paper; feeding sheets.-The paper pile B<1> rests upon a bed B between adjustable guides b<2>, b<3> and under a presser-plate b<4> having a central transverse projection b<6>. The bottom sheet is buckled by means of reciprocating rollers d, and passes down over guide-fingers d<2> and between feeding and pressing rollers F, F<1> into guards O. Two more folds are made by means of a folding- bar i', vertical rollers L, M, N, and a guide p with an adjustable stop p<3>, and the thrice-folded sheet is delivered upon a plate U. The rollers d are mounted in spring-elevated arms D pivoted on sleeves c, c', and are held against rotation as they move towards each other by means of ratchets and pawls. The sleeves c, c' slide on side rods C and are connected in pairs by transverse bars, which are operated from shafts s<1>, r<1> rocked by levers R<2>, R' pivoted to a lever R pivoted to a pinion G on a stub shaft g. The folding-bar i<2> is on a plunger i<1> connected by bars i<5> to an arm i<6> on a shaft which is operated by means of a lever H<1> and an arm H carrying a pin engaging in an eccentric groove in a box-cam G<1> secured to the pinion G. The shaft e<2> of the roller F is driven from the main shaft E, and carries a pinion e<4> engaging with the pinion G. The roller L is driven from the shaft E by bevel gearing J<1>, and the roller M is spring-pressed into engagement with the rollers L, N.
