Although I have shown my improved delivery apparatus in connection with a foldingmachine, I wish it understood that it is equally well adapted for use in connection with machines of different characteras for instance, printing-machines.

It will thus be seen that the driving connection to the forwarding-roll g is maintained in all positions of adjustment of parts carried thereby, the only effect of such adjustment, so far as this connection is concerned, being to move the spiral gear 7L2, which is splined on shaft h axially of that shaft. The periphery of the forwarding-roll 9 extends slightly above the surface of the ways H H, so as to forward on the same the folded sheets fed thereon.
Formed in each of the frame members A A is an arc-shaped slot J, curved about the pivotal axis of the ways H H as a center, and within these slots operates a cross-rod one end of which is provided with a head 3 and the other end of which is threaded and provided with a hand-nut P. This rod extends through slots formed in brackets j, each of which is secured to the under side of one of the ways H. The outer end of the ways can thus be moved to any desired position by loosening the hand-nut 3' and moving the rod j, which supports that end of the ways, to any position between the ends of the slots J, in which position the rod may be held by tight- The outer end of the delivery-tray, as well as the inner end, can thus be adjusted as desired in order to obtain the position and inclination of the ways H which will give the best results.
Mounted to slide back and forth upon the ways H is a block K, which maintains the sheets in proper position upon the ways and is moved backward by the accumulation of the sheets between it and the stripper-plate F.
In the operation of the machine the sheets which have been folded or otherwise acted upon are passed between the rolls d and d and down alongside the stripper-plate F, which in addition to guiding the sheets prevents them from being carried around by the roll d. As the sheets accumulate upon the ways H they are moved along by the forwarding-roll 9 the periphery of which is fluted or corrugated, but are always maintained in proper position by the sliding block K. The position of the end of the ways adjacent to the roll d can be readily adjusted toward and from the roll d. The best results are obtained when the delivery-tray is in such position that when the lower edge of the sheet reaches the ways H .the upper edge has just passed below the line of engagement of the rolls d and (i so that when the downward movement of the sheet is arrested by the ways the roll (P will carry the upper The spiral gear i ed e of the sheet around to the side of that roll away from the roll (1. This provides a narrow V-shaped space into which the forward edge of the next sheet brought around by roll d can enter. By means of the adustment provided for the end of the deliverytray adjacent to roll (1 this position can be obtained for sheets varying considerably in size. The forwarding of the sheets along the delivery-tray is effected more or less readily, dependent upon the character of the sheets themselves, and by adjusting the inclination. of the tray this forwarding of the sheets can be retarded or assisted. Since provision is made for the adjustment of both the inner and the outer ends of the tray, such inclination as will give the best results can be readily obtained.
Having now described my invention, What I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:
1. In sheet-delivery apparatus, the combination of a delivery-roll, a stripper-plate coacting therewith, a delivery-tray one end of which enters an opening in said stripperplate, means for adjusting the end of said tray adjacent to said delivery-roll toward and away from the roll, and means for locking the tray in any adjusted position, substantially as set forth.
2. I11 sheet-delivery apparatus, the combination of a delivery-roll, a stripper-plate coacting therewith, a delivery-tray one end of which enters an opening in said stripperplate, and means for ad usting the ends of said tray relatively to said delivery-roll, one independently of the other, substantially as set forth.
3. In sheet-delivery ap aratus, the combination with a delivery-rolij of a delivery-tray, means for adjustim the ends of said tray relatively to said rdll, one independently of the other, forwarding-roll in said tray, and means for driving said roll, substantially as set forth.
4. In sheet-delivery apparatus, the combination with a delivery-roll, of a delivery-tray adjustable toward and away from said roll, a forwarding-roll adjustable with said tray, and means for driving the same in any position of the adjustment of the tray, substantially as set forth. I
5. In sheet-delivery apparatus, the combi nation with a delivery-roll, of a delivery-tray adjustable toward and away from said roll, a forwarding-roll mounted in bearings adjustable with said tray, and means for driving said forwarding-roll in any position of the adjustment thereof, substantially as set forth.
6. In sheet-delivery apparatus, the combination with a delivery-roll, of delivery apparatus including Ways, means for adjusting said ways toward and from said deliveryroll, a forwarding-roll operating between said ways, a shaft driven from a source of power common to said delivery-roll, and a sliding connection between said shaft and said forwarding-roll, substantially as set forth.
7. In sheet-delivery apparatus, the combination with a delivery-roll, of delivery apparatus including ways, means for forwardlng sheets on said ways, a block mounted to slide on said ways, means for adjusting the inner end of said ways relatively to said roll, and an adjustment device eoacting with the outer end of said ways, substantiallyas set forth.
8. In sheet-delivery apparatus, the combination of a delivery-roll, a stripper-plate coacting therewith and delivery apparatus including adjustable ways whose ends enter openingsin said stripper-plate, and means for locking said ways in any adjusted position, substantially as set forth.
9. In sheet-delivery apparatus, the combination of a delivery-roll, a stripper-plate coacting therewith, and delivery apparatus including ways whose ends operate in openings in said stripper-plate, and means for adjustin the inner ends of said ways relatively to sa1d roll, substantially as set forth.
