Dropping - roller feeds; sheetregistering devices ; sheet-separators. - In a sheet-feed mechanism for printing, folding, and other machines, the sheet is registered laterally against a guide 23, Fig. 5, bv inclined feed-rollers 2, 2a and longitudinally against a frontregistering stop 8, Fig. 3, carried on a moving endless band 4 so that the movement of the sheet is continuous from the pile to the gripper or like cylinder 3 of the machine. The pile of sheets is supported on an inclined board 10, from which the sheets pass over a roll 11 and are fed forward singly by a friction roller 13. From the roller 13 each sheet passes to two pairs of feedrollers 14, 15 and 16, 17, the first pair feeding the sheet at a low speed and the second pair serving to increase the speed of the sheet and feed it on to the rollers 2. The upper rollers 15, 17 are lifted alternately so that only one pair of rollers is in operation at one time. The rollers 2 are mounted in a frame 18 adjustable transversely of the frame 9 of the machine by means of a screwed spindle 22 and a handwheel 21. The rollers 2a are mounted in a fixed frame 31 and have less obliquity than the rollers 2, so that where the stop 8 comes into operation the sheets are thrust with reduced force against the side guide 23. A blower 32 with downwardly and forwardly directed nozzles 33 assists in feeding the sheets and keeping them on the feedrollers 2. The side guide 23 is fixed to a bar 26 mounted on screwed spindles 27, 28 secured to the frame 18 and adjusted simultaneously by a hand-wheel 29 and connecting chains 30. A horizontal flange 24 on the side guide 23 prevents buckling of the sheet. The speed of the feedrollers exceeds that of the stop 8, so that the sheet is pushed against the stop. The length of the bands 4 may be a multiple of the circumference of the gripper cylinder and the bands carry a number of appropriately spaced stops 8.
