Abstract

462,241. Plug cocks. FARNSWORTH, F. S. Aug. 30, 1935, No. 24219. [Class 135] The tapered plug of a plug cock is removably held in place by a plunger member slidably mounted in a pivotal housing and withdrawable axially to release the plug, the housing being subsequently swung to either side of the plug axis to permit removal of the plug. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the plunger 7 has a pointed end adapted to engage a conical recess in the larger end of the plug, and is slidably mounted in a housing 15 formed on a bridge 9 pivotally mounted by arms 10 on pivots 13 integral with the casing. The plunger is loaded by a spring 14 and is provided with a manipulating handle 19. In a modification the plunger has a screw-threaded engagement with the housing 15. The end of the plunger may be cylindrical instead of being pointed or may be formed with a recess to receive a dowel pin on the plug or may be extended to form a cap adapted to fit over the larger end of the plug. The bridge and arms may be formed integrally in which case the arms are either provided with screwed pivots adapted to engage sockets in the casing or are mounted as shown in Fig. 9. In this modification the point 7 is formed integrally with the bridge and the arms are spring loaded and slidably mounted in sockets 29 pivotally mounted on the casing.
