Abstract

224,028. Lash, F. L. Aug. 27, 1923. Screwdrivers.-The stem 1 of a screwdriver is provided with a longitudinal bore or groove to receive an axial blade 5 provided with teeth 6, Fig. 12, adapted to hold the screw 14 by engaging the walls of the usual slot 15. A spring 7, secured directly at one end to the blade and suitably anchored at the opposite end such as by being riveted into a slot 1<b> in the end of the stem 1, holds the blade normally with its tip substantially at right angles to the tip 2 of the stem 1. A pin projects from the blade 5 into a circumferential slot 9 in the stem 1 and a screw 12, carried by a rotary sleeve 10, also projects into the slot 9 and contacts with the pin, so that by turning the sleeve, the blade 5 is turned to bring its tip into alignment with the tip 2 to allow it to be inserted in the screw slot.
