Abstract
462,086. Beating carpets &c. HAMMARLING, H. April 17, 1936, No. 11067. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 9] of the Acts, Oct. 19, 1936.] [Class 138 (i)] A machine for beating carpets, garments, or other textile articles is provided with a convex stop surface 18, Fig. 2, adapted to check gradually the motion of the beating arms 4 when the machine is operating while no article is in the beating position. In a modification, the surface 18 is replaced by a series of stops arranged on a convex curve so as to come into contact successively with the beating arms and absorb the energy of the movement. The beating element comprises a rod 1 carried by the arms 4 which are pivotally mounted on shafts 5 and are provided with projections 6 carrying journals 7 for rollers 8. The rollers are engaged by cams 13 on a driven shaft 14, the cams moving the rod 1 away from the article being beaten, and the beating taking place under the action of springs 9. The springs may be tensioned by means of a cranked handle 12. The machine casing 3 may be suspended from a rail 20, Fig. 4, and held in the' desired position by an adjustable resilient stay 22.
