Abstract
461,648. Fuzes and combustion trains. FLEMING, J. S. B., PAYN, R. C., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Aug. 21, 1935, No. 23519. [Classes 9 (i) and 9 (ii)] To make a combustion train composition, a fuze powder such as black-powder, or a mixture of ingredients thereof, in finely divided form, is suspended in an aqueous medium saturated with respect to the water-soluble components and is agitated with a relatively small proportion of a fibrilated cellulose bonding material, whereupon the suspension is drained to form a wet felt which is further dried and shaped. The material may be cut or stamped while still somewhat moist, and may be enclosed in an envelope in known manner. The material may be made into strips, used singly or twisted together as fuzes, and may be enclosed in a spun covering in the usual way. The aqueous medium may contain a proportion of volatile neutral organic water-soluble liquid in order to reduce the solubility of the soluble components. The proportion of cellulose fibre in the dry composition may be between 5 and 20 per cent.
