Abstract
461,342. Conditioning paper webs. HALL & KAY, Ltd., KAY, H., HALL, S., and MYERS, A. May 9, 1935, No. 13646. [Class 96] [Also in Group XIII] In apparatus for conditioning paper, the web is passed between a pair of elongated boxes or hollow walls 8, and during its passage is acted upon by streams of air or gas of appro priate temperature anc humidity, which issue from ducts 14 at the bottom of the boxes and are withdrawn, after being in contact with the web through ducts 15 arranged at the top of the boxes in such a manner that the streams come in contact with the inner surfaces of the walls of the boxes. The interior of each box is divided into two compartments 11 and 12 by a partition 10, the gases being supplied to the compartment 12 and withdrawn after use through the compartment 11. Baffles 19 may be provided in the latter compartment, to assist in maintaining both the inside and outside surfaces of the walls of the box at the same temperature, so as to avoid condensation. A number of boxes may be arranged in a series, the web being guided, by means of rollers 6 and 7, in a zigzag path between the boxes.
