Abstract
865,115. Drying threads in long lengths. SUCKER G.m.b.H. GEB. July 8, 1957 [July 24, 1956]. No 21532/57. Class 34(2) A group of parallel threads F, Fig. 1, are dried by contact with counterflow hot drying medium during roller guided passage through the ducts 11, 12, 13, 14, of an apparatus comprising superposed drying units 1, 2, each of which incorporates two sets of medium heating and circulating means 7, 3, and 8, 4, or 9, 5, and 10, 6. Ducts 12, 13, form a composite duct and medium flow is controlled by gates 15, 16, 17, 18. In another embodiment each unit 1, 2, Fig. 2, comprises single heating and circulating means 7, 3 or 9, 5, and the drying medium and threads pass along the composite duct 12, 13, in the same direction. In yet a further embodiment, in which each unit has two sets of heating and circulating means 7, 3, and 8, 4, or 9, 5, and 10, 6, Fig. 3, two control gates 19, 20, are located in the central partition walls to selectively provide either a series or parallel arrangement, in relation to the flow of the drying medium, both for the drying ducts and the circulating means. Observation gates 22, 23, are formed in the end walls of the units adjacent negative pressure zones from which any moisture evaporating therein from the threads is removed. These zones house thread dividing rods 24 and, if necessary, moisture measuring devices. In addition to the threads F a further thread group F2 is dried by passage through the composite duct 12, 13, onlyif desirable, at slower speed than that of the threads F. Figs. 4-13 (not shown) show possible combinations of four drier units in which there are two pairs of units -each similar to the pair shown in Fig. 2 -disposed in end-to-end relationship. Fig. 14 shows drying units of triangular shape having heating and circulating means 7, 3, 8, 4, 9, 5, 10, 6, 81, 41, 71, 31, 101, 61, 91, and 51. Different drying media having different specific weights, temperatures, pressures or chemical compositions may be circulated through the ducts of the respective units.
