Abstract

461,017. Dehairing pelts. PLASS, R. H. Sept. 14, 1935, No. 25587. Convention date, Sept. 27, 1934. [Class 76] In a machine for cutting fur from pelts, the pelts are fed across the path of a " draw " knife 15 which is caused to move, by the co-operation of a driving link 38 and suspending links 26, to effect a drawing cut across the hair of the pelt which is blown back, to lie transverse to the line of cut, by an air blast from a nozzle 59<1>. The blast carries the severed hair into proximity with a suction pipe 60 having an opening 61 into which the hair is drawn or it may be drawn against a foraminous conveyer 62, as shown in Fig. 1, and into contact with a belt 63 by which it is carried away. The pelt is fed, by toothed rollers 7-10, over a cutting bed comprising a block 16 having a resilient support 19 to compensate for uneven thickness of the skin. The depilated skin is drawn forward by serrated rollers 34 having slots in which stripper fingers 36, 37 enter.
