Abstract

586,015. Fish-dressing machines. ARENCO AKTIEBOLAG. July 6, 1944, No. 12959. Convention date, July 13, 1943. [Class 28 (ii)] In a fish heading and gutting machine in which a conveyer 11-12 carries each fish to a disc heading knife 14, the fish is correctly positioned longitudinally by a spring-pressed plate or plates 40 above the conveyer to press the tapering rear body portion of the fish and so urge its snout against a gauge plate 13. A number of such plates 40 are arranged in echelon so that small fish may be worked up to the gauge plate. The fish then moves along with its snout on the gauge plate 13, Fig. 9, until its relatively firm gills are engaged by an inclined spring-pressed displacing plate 50 whereby the head is more accurately positioned by the lower edge 51 engaging the gills before meeting the heading knife 14. After parting the heading knife the body is again moved longitudinally by the pressing action of other spring-pressed plates 40 which press the body against an inclined groove fixed plate 44 whereby its cut end approaches the nip of cutting rollers 17, 18. At this stage, the fish body is pressed on by one of the pressers 30 of a wheel 23 so that part of the gut is made to protrude end be engaged and drawn out by the rollers 17, 18 while the fish is held back by another spring- pressed plate 40 near the press wheel 23. The roll and milt not adhering to the intestine remains inside the body. The chain-driven press wheel 23 is carried by an arm 25 yieldingly mounted by spring 28, 29, the tension of which can be adjusted by nuts 32, 33 to vary the pressure of the head 30 on the fish. Fig. 6 shows one of the pressure bars 40 with blade spring 42 yieldingly secured to a beam 41 fixed above the conveyed chains.
