Abstract
460,753. Hatches. KING, C. W., and MACGREGOR & KING, Ltd. June 24, 1936, No. 17524. [Class 113 (i)] The hatch sections are lined with heat insulating material comprising a filling of granulated cork 36 enclosed between cork slabs 23, 35, protected at the bottom by the wooden lining 37, the whole section being enclosed in metal sheets 38. The stiffeners 22 for the sections are separated from the granulated filling 36 by the wooden strips 27, 28, Fig. 6. The coaming 12 is likewise insulated bv material such as cork slabs 19, Fig. 4, which is provided with a wooden facing 20 protected by the metal sheet 21 which is stopped short of the coaming. A resilient gasket 26 on the hatch section secures a gas-tight joint between the hatch sections and the coaming. At their abutting faces the hatch-sections are provided with positioning studs 31, Fig. 7, and are fastened by cleats 17. Eccentrically mounted rollers provided at the ends of the sections facilitate the traversing of the sections to the end of the hatch where they are stored on end. When in position on the hatch, the hatch sections are lowered into contact with the coaming by operating the eccentric rollers and are secured by the cleats 16, Fig. 4. Specifications 305,836, 315,557, 321,741, 335,012, and 337,975, [all in Class 113 (i)], 353,364, and 354,643 are referred to.
