Abstract

Anaesthetic solutions are prepared by causing an anaesthetic base which is a benzoic- or paraaminobenzoic ester of an amino alcohol or a para-aminobenzoic ester of a simple alcohol, to react with formic, acetic, salicylic, or benzoic acid; or by double decomposition between the hydrochloride of the anaesthetic and a magnesium, potassium or other salt of one of said acids. In either case the pH of the solution is adjusted to 4 by means of the same acid as is used in making the reaction product. Examples relate to preparations of cocaine and of paraaminobenzoyl-diethylaminoethanol.ALSO:Anaesthetic solutions, which withstand sterilization by heat and are suitable as surface anaesthetics, are prepared by causing an anaesthetic base which is a benzoic- or paraamino-benzoic ester of an amino alcohol or a para-aminobenzoic ester of a simple alcohol, to react with formic, acetic, salicylic or benzoic acid and adjusting the solution to pH4; or by mixing a solution of a salt of the anaesthetic, such as the hydrochloride, with a solution of a salt of one of the said organic acids, preferably a magnesium or potassium salt, and adjusting the pH to 4. Examples relate to preparations of cocaine and para-aminobenzoyl-diethylaminoethanol. The pH of the solutions is adjusted by addition of the same acid as is used in making the reaction product.
