Abstract
<PICT:0460532/III/1> A continuous vacuum distillation plant has a series of superposed chambers to effect distillation in stages, the pressure being reduced in one or more of the successive stages and the vapours distilled at any stage being removed under the pressure obtaining at that stage. The liquid enters by a pipe 2 and the chamber floors may have baffles or guides 3 and steam coils 6 or other heating means by which the temperature at each stage can be adjusted. The vapour at each stage is led off by a pipe 7 and the condensate from the ceilings is trapped in funnels 10 and led to the vapour exit. The chambers may be externally heated or jacketed and steam or other carrier vapours may be admitted to any chamber.
