Abstract
107,599. Barbet et fils et Cie, E. June 9, 1914, [Convention date]. Multiple-effect apparatus; alcoholic liquids, acetone &c., distilling.-Alcoholic liquids, and weak solutions of methyl alcohol, acetone, &c. are distilled by multiple-effect in a number of columns A, B, C, each receiving and completely exhausting a fraction of the liquid to be distilled. The boiler A' of the column A is heated by live steam or other supply of heat, and the boilers B<1>, C<1> of the columns B, C are heated by vapours generated in the preceding columns A, B. The column C is at atmospheric pressure and the columns B, A are at successively higher pressure. The phlegms resulting from condensation of the vapours in the boilers B<1>, C<1> are led to plates E at the top of the column C for further concentration. The united vapours thus obtained are led to the usual liquor heater D and refrigerator K. The liquid to be distilled is preheated in a heat-exchanger C<2> and the liquor heater D, and then flows through separate pipes under the control of valves R<1>, R<2>, R<3> to the columns A, B, C, pumps being provided where necessary. The portion led to the column A is heated nearly to its boiling-point in a heater Q by live steam. The portions entering the columns B, C are heated in heaters A<2>, B<2> by the exhausted liquid from the columns A, B. The exchanger C<2> receives exhausted liquid from the column C and also from the heaters A<2>, B'. The steam supply to the boiler A<1> is controlled by a regulator N in accordance with the pressure in the column C.
