Abstract

460,253. Microscopes. LEITZ GES., E. July 25, 1935, No. 21188. Convention date, Aug. 3, 1934. [Class 97 (i)] A microscope is provided with a sliding fitting carrying two separate illuminating devices, one being a ring illuminator such as described in Specifications 348,202 and 373,080, and the other a vertical illuminator, the fitting having a light-entrance tube for each illuminator and the arrangement being such that movement of the fitting can bring either of the illuminators and its light-entrance tube into operation without moving the source of light. A chamber B is provided between the body tube A and objective C and in this chamber is mounted the fitting E carrying the separate illuminators. One of these consists of an inclined annular reflector F which, in conjunction with a condenser D around the objective, provides ring illumination, this reflector being opposite a light-entrance tube G, projecting from the fitting E. Another light-entrance tube M is in alignment with the vertical illuminator which may consist of an inclined glass plate. An alternative form of vertical illuminator may be provided in addition to the glass plate, consisting of a small reflecting prism adapted to illuminate one half of the objective, the prism and glass plate being mounted on a slide which can be moved by a handle P<1> relatively to the fitting E to bring either of the vertical illuminators into position in alignment with the tube M.
