459,773. Dynamo-electric machines. SHEVLIN, J. T., 15, South Street, Finsbury, London.-(Siemens - Schuckertwerke Akt.- Ges.; Siemensstadt, Berlin) June 25, 1936, No. 17734. [Class 35] Casings ; cooling.-The commutator of a dynamo-electric machine is enclosed in a casing which has surfaces co-operating with the surface of the commutator segment, or of a ring carried thereby, to form a tight joint. In the arrangement shown the casing 6 has a surface 11 forming a tight joint with a ring 12 shrunk on to the commutator segments 2 and separated therefrom by an insulating ring 23. A similar joint is formed at the other end of the casing 6 by a tubular projection 15 on the end wall 5 of the machine casing, and a ring 14 on the commutator segments. A second cylindrical projection 10 on the wall 5 serves to support the casing 6 rotatably, so that an inspection window 9 can be brought into any desired position. Air pipes 20, 21 may communicate with the space between the projection 10 and 15 or removable air pipes may be provided. The casing 6 may be of circular cross-section or may be formed with projecting portions to accommodate the brushes, or a separate casing may be provided for each set of brushes.
