Abstract

390,291. Cooling dynamoelectric machines. LAIGHPARK ELECTRIC MOTORS, Ltd., 65, St. Vincent Lane, Glasgow, and Y0UNG, G. S., 49, Lanfine Road, Paisley, Renfrewshire. Feb. 3, 1932, No. 3193. [Class 35.] In a dynamo-electric machine of the type described in Specification 322,363, [Class 35, Dynamo-electric generators &c.], the non-rotary parts 7, 8 of the diaphragm which isolates the stator and rotor windings from the external atmosphere and from the cooling air streams extend radially inwards so as to enclose the stator windings 9 and so as to form with the rotary parts 7a, 8a, air gaps 10 which are disposed radially nearer the axis of the rotor than the stator. The object of this arrangement is to prevent the accumulation of coal dust &c. in the air gaps 10 and so to render the machine flame proof. The faces 11 defining the air gaps are cylindrical and stepped. Fans 5, 6 direct the cooling air in separate streams through rotor ducts 4 and stator ducts 2.
