[Class 38 (iv)] [See also Group XL] Relates to the use of grid-controlled discharge devices connected directly or indirectly in a circuit to permit current flow for a timed period and consists in obtaining the grid potentials from across a resistance in series with a condenser which is charged in steps from the supply through a grid-controlled valve. Grid potentials of a discharge device controlling a welding operation are obtained from a resistance 12 which is in series with one or more condensers C and an auxiliary discharge device 6, the number of charging impulses depending on the capacity of the condenser. By this means, the main discharge device conducts for a number of half cycles depending on the number of impulses. Specifications 420,100 and 448,833 are referred to.
