Abstract

In a process of oxidizing hydrogen sulphide and cyanogen compounds contained in hydrocarbon-containing gases by passage with oxygen over a single catalyst at 250--600 DEG C., catalysts as described in Specification 319,396, [Class 1 (i)], may be used or may comprise iron, nickel, copper or their oxides or salts with metals capable of transferring oxygen such as tungsten, vanadium or chromium or their oxides or salts. In an example, 1 part by weight of nickel oxide and ,1 part of lead oxide are applied to coke in the proportion of 1 part of the mixture to 100 parts of coke.
