[Class 38 (i)] The cap of a multiple filament miniature electric lamp is provided on its end face with separate fixed contacts connected to the respective filaments the contacts being of different heights and disposed adjacent to one another so that they are all adapted in turn for engagement with a common counter - contact, the height of the highest contact being reduced by the removal of a part or the whole of its material to enable the next contact to be brought into use. In the example the leading-in wires of two filaments b, c are connected to two contacts i, h, with a common leading-in wire d connected to the screw-threaded metal shell e. The higher contact h is the first to make contact with the common centre contact when the bulb is screwed into its socket. The contact or contacts not in use may be provided with a removable coating of insulating material. The contacts consist of soldering tin or other soft metal.
