[Class 112] A needle for repairing " ladders " in knit goods has a sliding latch c for closing the hook b, normally opened by a light spring attached to the lug g. The latch has a protuberance d pro jecting above the shank a of the needle for en gaging the cross-thread m<2> to close the hook on the withdrawal stroke of the needle. The shank a is cut away at e to form an arcuate recess so that the base of the latch engages the other cross thread m<1> at whatever angle of incidence is used between the needle and the fabric. The chains line x-x indicates the usual position of the fabric. The recess e is about the length of the normal needle stroke.
