Abstract
Artificial silk, cotton, &c. fabrics are rendered resistant to creasing by impregnation with aldehydes and amino derivatives of 1 : 3 : 5-triazines or their substitution products, or with the water-soluble condensation products of these reagents, and then heating the impregnated fabrics to form the water-insoluble condensation products. Acid catalysts accelerate the condensation, although their presence is not essential. In examples, viscose artificial silk fabric is impregnated with a solution in hot water of melamine containing formaldehyde, and, after drying, heated to 145--150 DEG C.; a solution in hot water of melamine and formaldehyde is made alkaline with sodium carbonate, and the solution evaporated to dryness or the pulp of crystals which forms on cooling separated, cotton fabric being impregnated with a solution in hot water of the dry product, and the fabric subsequently steamed; artificial silk material is impregnated with a solution in hot water of formoguanamine and formaldehyde, and the impregnated material heated to 145--150 DEG C.
