Abstract

The crease-resisting properties of vegetable and artificial fibrous materials are improved by impregnating with a solution containing a compound capable of condensing with formaldehyde and a soluble compound capable of yielding formaldehyde, drying the material, and heating without addition of formaldehyde and in the absence of a catalyst, to form a synthetic resin. In an example, a viscose material is treated with a 15 per cent solution of dimethylolurea, wrung out, dried, and heated in a boiler for about 2 hours at 120 DEG C.
