Abstract

Cellulosic fibres are given a resistance to creasing by soaking in a solution or emulsion of a wax or product resembling wax, and are then impregnated with a solution of a resin or of substances which are to be condensed to form a resin. In a modification, the fibres are impregnated with the solution or emulsion of wax and often drying are treated with formaldelyde vapour at a raised temperature. As waxes there may be used natural or artificial waxes or substances resembling waxes, such as Japan wax and the material prepared according to Specification 305,552, [Class 91]. In an example, the goods are saturated with an emulsion of Japan wax and the sodium salt of oleic acid N-methyl-tauride, pressed, introduced into a solution of dimethylol-urea, and mono- and di-sodium phosphate, dried, and heated. In another example the emulsion used comprises the wax described in Specification 305,552 and triethanolamine. In a third example, the materials are treated with a wax as in the first example, with addition of mono- and di-sodium phosphate, dried, and heated with formaldehyde under pressure.
