Abstract
458,831. Road-traffic signals on vehicles. MILLER, R. S., 157, Oldham Road, Ashton-under-Lyne. July 1, 1935, Nos. 18734, 24446, and 34970. [Class 118 (ii)] An indicating arm, rotated about a vertical or an horizontal axis, is actuated by an electric motor of which the armature is fixed and the field coils and casing carrying the arm, rotate. Stops are provided to limit the movement and a detent holds the arm in its normal position. The arm illustrated is adapted for rotation from a vertical to a horizontal position. Normally the detent 12 engages a slot f in the armature. When the windings are energized, the end 16 of the lock is attracted to release the arm, and the casing c carrying the field coils k rotates to bring the arm d into the horizontal position shown in the drawings. Spring- pressed levers 18 carried by the arm bear on the fixed pins 17 to assist the movement of the arm into indicating position. Movement is limited by stop 10 engaging members 11 on the casing c. The arm may comprise metal edges p, p<1> holding celluloid panels q, or the arm may be moulded. A lamp w is carried by a spring clip in the plug y, the lamp being withdrawn when the plug is screwed out. The detent 12 may be provided with a manual release to enable the arm to be swung out by hand.
