[Classes 44 and 65 (i)] A door lock, which is electrically controlled from a distant position, is provided with an electric circuit which is closed, independently of the position of the bolt, when the door is opened and operates an audible or visible signal at the distant position until the door is again closed. When the door is closed, the various parts are positioned as shown in full lines, closure of a switch 2 or 2<1> energizes coils 4 to rock a bell-crank lever 8, 9 against a spring and to thereby free a spring-pressed pivoted member 10 and to allow the bolt 11 to rock about a vertical axis when the door is pushed to open it. Opening of the door moves a pivoted or springy member 12 away from an abutment 14 on the door post and allows the member 12 and, through a rack and pinion 15 or levers, a contact lever 6 to assume their dotted line positions, a spring acting on the lever 6. The contact at 5 in the lock controlling circuit is broken and a signalling circuit is completed by contact at 17, a signal 19 being operated until. the door is again closed or a separate switch is opened. The signal 19 which may be an electric lamp may be housed within a glass cover for the switch 2 of the push-in type. A lamp 20 may be provided in the lock-controlling circuit on the door to indicate when the lock is free, and the lock may be controlled from a number of distant positions.
