Abstract

882,595. Plumb lines. PEARMAIN, D. C. J. Aug. 31, 1960 [July 23, 1959], No. 25367/59. Class 97(2). A plumb bob 4 is connected by a line 10 to a spool which is rotatable within a casing 1 having a housing 3 for the bob 4 when in the stowed position, the housing 3 being apertured at 18 to facilitate the initial removal of the plumb bob. The spool comprises a hollow hub 5 rotating on a spindle S and provided with notched flanges such as 6 at opposite ends of the hub to enable the spool to be rotated from outside the casing 1. A spring 15 has one end 13 engaging the line 10 between eyes 11, 12, and its opposite end 14 engaging the notched flanges to prevent unintentional rotation of the spool. An auxiliary plumb bob may be engaged with bob 4 by means of a spring clip engaging groove 22.
