[Class 75 (i)] A mixing chamber for use with a gas, oil or pulverulent fuel burner for furnaces comprises a block 1 with a central aperture forming a relatively small diameter cylindrical chamber 2 into which discharges a fuel nozzle 4 and a larger diameter mixing chamber 6 having one or more air inlet openings 10 communicating with one or more air passages 9 formed in the block and arranged to direct the air substantially spirally about the core of fuel from the nozzle, the mixing chamber having its wall converged to a neck or lip 7 to direct the air across the core of fuel. An outwardly flared mouth 8 may be formed beyond the neck 7. In a modification, Fig. 5, the mixing chamber instead of converging towards the combustion chamber as shown in Fig. 1, may have a portion diverging from the chamber 2, and followed by a converging portion which forms the neck 7. In other forms the mixing chamber may be mainly cylindrical or, as shown in Fig. 4, may be in part substantially spherical or ellipsoidal in form. Air may also enter the mixing chamber by way of an annular passage 5 surrounding the nozzle 4. The block may be in two symmetrical parts.
