Abstract

An intestinal germicide is prepared by the addition of glycerine and a soap to a - or b -naphthol whereby more concentrated aqueous solutions of the naphthols may be obtained than by combination of a naphthol with either glycerine or soap alone. a -Naphthol is the preferred germicidal ingredient and sodium stearate is a suitable soap. A retardant of slowly digestible nature such as an oil, fat or wax, e.g. beeswax, or liquorice root, or a non-digestible substance, e.g. mineral oil, may be added. The composition may be put up in gelatine capsules.
