Abstract

458,307. Visible signalling-apparatus. FODOR, J., Fodor Communication Research Laboratories, Mount Park, Harrow, Middlesex. March 16, 1935, No. 8273. [Class 118 (ii)] [See also Group XL] A common high-frequency generator is used to supply both a wireless transmitter and a luminous discharge tube or signal lamp, each signalling-device being controlled or modulated by Morse or telephony. The wireless signals are picked up on an ordinary receiver, and the visible signals are either read by the eye or received by means of photo-electric cells. The system is particularly suitable for aircraft navigation near an aerodrome, or for inter-communication between machines in the air. As shown in Fig. 2, a valve-generator 4 supplies high-frequency oscillations both to an aerial A and to a signal lamp L. Modulating-means 1, 2 are inserted in each circuit, and a control device 3 is inserted in the common supply-line. In Fig. 6 a separate generator 6, 7 is used for each signalling device. The output from the same generator may be fed through separate channels, with different degrees of amplification, to the transmitting aerial and lamp. The frequency may be stepped-up in one of the supply channels.
