In a pulse radar system in which a response on a P.P.I. display due to a particular mobile craft is identified by modifying it by reply pulses transmitted by a responder carried by the craft, the radar pulses received at the craft are detected and applied through an amplifier, a multivibrator shaping circuit and a switch to modulate the carrier of a conventional communication transmitter operating in a different wave-band from the radar, the reply pulses being received and detected at the radar station by a communication receiver and applied through a short time constant circuit to the radar video stages where they are mixed with the detected radar echo signals. Due to the delay at the responder, the response due to the combined echo and reply pulses from the craft will be extended radially and thus readily identified. When the craft transmitter is used for communication purposes, the multivibrator output is disconnected by the switch which may also disconnect the H.T. supply from the amplifier and multivibrator.
