Abstract
461,749. Wireless signalling. JOHNSTONE, D. M., and BAIRD TELEVISION, Ltd. Aug. 23, 1935, No. 23670. [Class 40 (v)] A carrier wave is transmitted in successive periods of substantially equal duration, the amplitude during any one period being constant and a function of that of the modulating signal. A control signal of the same periodicity as the carrier interruption frequency is simultaneously transmitted. At the transmitter an amplifying valve 3 fed with the modulating currents is followed by a sharply tuned circuit 5, which may be a critically regenerative valve circuit and is periodically biassed to cut-off by a pulse generator 4. The signals thus produced feed an amplifier 6 and are then radiated. A carrier is also transmitted modulated with impulses from the generator 4. At the receiver a sharply tuned circuit responsive to the signal carrier is periodically quenched by the receiver control signal which, if necessary, may be passed through a phase-shifting device. A common control-frequency signal may be radiated for several transmitters. Specification 455,298 is referred to.
