Abstract

591,357. Modulating systems. PRESS WIRELESS, Inc. Aug. 9; 1944, No. 15160. Convention date, Sept. 18, 1943. [Class 40 (v)] The aerial 5 is energized by radio-frequency amplifier 4 fed from a fixed carrier frequency source 1 and a frequency-modulated source 2 of carrier controlled by a signal source 3 in such a way that the frequency difference between sources 1 and 2 is equal to the tone frequency it is desired to produce at the output of a co-operating receiver. The second detector, .10 of a known amplitude modulation superheterodyne receiver feeds the output stage' 11 with the translated variable tone frequency. The system is particularly applicable to the transmission of facsimile signals in which light and shade values are represented as. different tone frequencies, as described in Specifications 537,689 and 537,699. In a modification, both sources 1, 2 are frequency modulated in opposite senses. The two carriers may be radiated from separate aerials.
