Abstract

904,383. Radio and inductive signalling. W.S. ELECTRONICS Ltd. Nov. 11, 1960 [Nov. 11, 1959], No. 38285/59. Class 40 (5). In a system for two-way communication between a control station and one or more mobile stations the control station includes a transmitter TR which generates a low-frequency carrier, e.g. 90 kc/s., which is modulated by a microphone M, the signal being fed to a closed wire loop L which is laid on the ground or supported on poles, e.g. around an airfield. A unit CUT includes an audio amplifier and a tone generator for calling mobile stations. The mobile stations SB1, SB2, each consist of two small casings which may be carried in a coat pocket, one containing a low-frequency receiver, a V.H.F. or U.H.F. transmitter with an extensible aerial, and a combined microphone and loud-speaker, and the other containing a battery and transistorized power supply. A number of stationary V.H.F. or U.H.F. radio receivers R1, R2, R3 are distributed around the airfield to receive the signals transmitted by the mobile transmitters and are connected by lines T1 &c. with a unit CU2 at the control station which includes a phasing device for combining and amplifying the received signals. The output of the receivers R1 &c. may be fed via the loop L, suitable filter circuits being provided. In smaller installations a single V.H.F. or U.H.F. receiver is situated with the transmitter TR.
