Abstract

In a two-way radio communication system between a fixed base station connected to terminals A, B and one or more mobile stations M, a radiating transmission line TL extends between the base station and zones in which the mobile stations operate. The base station transmits and receives at speech frequency over the transmission line TL and one or more relay transmitters TX1, &c. feed to the line radio frequency signals modulated with speech signals received over the line from the base station. Relay receivers RX1, &c. demodulate radio frequency signals on the line and feed the resulting speech signals over the line to the base station. The arrangement is such that mobile stations can receive radio signals radiating from and transmit radio signals to the line acting as an antenna. Filter circuits are described for preventing interaction between the radio and audio frequencies at the relay stations. The frequencies transmitted by transmitters RX1, &c. may be arranged to be spaced with a frequency band which is within the response band of a mobile receiver. The system may be used for communication or remote control of machinery in mines or other tunnels or along a railway track or motor road.
