Abstract
449,322. Wireless signalling. ROBINSON, J., 76, Mill Way, Mill Hill, London. Dec. 19, 1934, No. 36448. [Class 40 (v)] In a relay station for intensifying the signal strength in the locality, the receiver is controlled automatically to maintain the re-radiated signal constant. The carrier only, or with one or both sidebands may be intensified. The Figure shows a system in which the signals are changed in frequency by a frequency changer 52 and re-converted to the original frequency by another frequency changer 58 using a common oscillator 53. Signals are controlled in strength in the amplifier 54 and fed over lines 57 and through means to compensate for attenuation, frequency and phase distortion. Similar compensation in the oscillator line 59 is effected by the device 61. Reaction between the transmitter and receiver may be used and may be obtained by a band-pass coupling in combination with a series tuned circuit for decreasing the amplitude of the carrier. The reradiated signal may be modulated locally when no modulation is provided by the distant transmitter. The apparatus may be located at any convenient location between the two antennµ. The Provisional Specification describes radiation at the relay station of a carrier suppressed at the transmitter and radiation of the carrier with the other sideband from that received. The use of loops to balance the transmitter out in the receiver and a directional receiver to eliminate interference as described in Specification 428,081 are also described in the Provisional Specification.
